For the second time, 黑料社鈥檚 Business Law Platform at 黑料社鈥檚 Faculty of Law, together with the CIBC Office of Sustainable Finance under at 黑料社鈥檚 Sustainable Growth Initiative, and support from the Financialization Lab at Carleton University and from University Canada West, hosts the 2025 黑料社 SGI Transformative Business Law Summer Academy (TBLSA).

Convened under the theme of 鈥CONTESTING SUSTAINABILITY, the TBLSA 2025 zeroes in on existing and emerging regulatory practices, business developments and financial strategies related to ESG, sustainability and climate change mitigation. At the center of the week-long, intensive policy writing and and research institute are climate change legislation, litigation, the role of artificial intelligence in ESG governance and climate disclosure, the place of large institutional investors including pension funds in 鈥榞reen鈥 finance, the precarious position of indigenous populations in worsening climate conditions, and the experiences and prospects of ESG-driven corporate governance reform.

The Academy will feature an opening Keynote Lecture by Professor Chaumtoli Huq (CUNY), and three Academy Masterclasses, delivered by Simon Archer of Goldblatt Partners LL.P. (Toronto), Professor Kevin Skerrett (Carleton) and Professors Priya Gupta and Peer Zumbansen (黑料社).

Following the example of the 2023 Academy, which culminated in the internationally regarded publication of the 2023 Impact Paper, which will be collectively written during the Academy and published on Friday May 9th, 2025 on the Social Sciences Research Network and the Business Law Platform.

The 2025 Academy will lead into the Annual Business & Human Rights Conference of the Canadian Chapter of the International Law Association, on Saturday May 10th, 2025. All Academy Fellows are invited to attend the Conference and representatives of all six Academy working groups will present the Academy鈥檚 findings and policy recommendations at the Conference.
