The Schulich School of Music is proud to announce Kate Fogg, soprano as the winner of the 2024-2025 Wirth Vocal Prize!
On Sunday, March 2, 2025 Ziggy Harris, baritone; Yiran Xing, tenor; Odile Portugais, soprano and Kate Fogg, soprano competed, and the jury named Kate Fogg as the winner of the 2024-2025 Wirth Vocal Prize.听
The four finalists were selected by jury from a group of eight who performed on February 28, 2025 for the semi-finals (read more). The jury panel included soprano Donna Brown (semi-final); pianist, conductor, and Artistic Director of the San-Francisco Opera Centre Carrie-Ann Matheson (final); bass-baritone and Executive Director of the Orchestre classique de Montr茅al Taras Kulish; tenor Fr茅d茅ric Antoun; and was chaired by St茅phane Lemelin.听
Kate performed with pianists Rebecca Klassen-Wiebe and Benjamin Kwong and studies with Prof. Tracy Smith Besette. Her energetic and engaging performance of works by Rameau, Mozart, and Guettel (among others), wowed the jury in their difficult deliberations.听聽
In addition to the grand prize of $25,000, Kate will benefit from a private consultation with Boulev鈥橝rt Artists鈥� Management and have two unique performance opportunities in the Schulich @ Bon-Pasteur in April and the Schulich @ COC series during the 2025-2026 season.听
