Program Requirements
The Kindergarten and Elementary P茅dagogie de l'Immersion Fran莽aise major is designed to meet the needs of students enrolled in the B.Ed. Kindergarten and Elementary program who wish to teach in French immersion contexts. It consists of 30 credits of French and second language education courses embedded within the regular B.Ed. Kindergarten and Elementary program. In addition, certain other course sections may be offered in French.
Please note that graduates of teacher education programs are recommended by the University to the Quebec Ministry of Education for Quebec teacher certification. For more information about teacher certification in Quebec, please refer to the Faculty of Education section under "Overview of Faculty Programs," "Undergraduate Education Programs," and "Quebec Teacher Certification".
Competency in French
Students wishing to follow the Kindergarten and Elementary P茅dagogie de l'Immersion Fran莽aise major must demonstrate a high level of competency in French by: providing proof of graduation from a French language secondary/high school (not French Immersion) or CEGEP; or by placing at the FRSL听431 Fran莽ais fonctionnel avanc茅. level or higher on the French Language Placement Test (FLPT) at the French Language Centre (黑料社).

P茅dagogie de l'Immersion Fran莽aise (PIF) Freshman Year (U0)
Students from outside of Quebec may be required to complete the Freshman en fran莽ais year (offered through the French Language Centre, Faculty of Arts). Students undertaking the Freshman en fran莽ais year may also be conditionally accepted into the PIF program, if they have a strong background in French (ex. Grade 12 French Immersion Program) and achieve an acceptable grade in the FLPT.
Those students who are conditionally accepted will be transferred to the PIF program following successful completion of their freshman year (passing grade in level appropriate FRSL courses). Unsuccessful candidates will remain registered in the regular B.Ed. Kindergarten/Elementary stream.
Students should contact to indicate their desire to transfer into this major and will need to provide proof of French Language Competency, as outlined above for the transfer to be accepted/processed.
Note: For information about Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 course offerings, please check back on May 8, 2025. Until then, the "Terms offered" field will appear blank for most courses while the class schedule is being finalized.

Eligibility /Admission Criteria
Students who are interested in the Bachelor of Education Kindergarten/Elementary P茅dagogie de l'immersion Fran莽aise (PIF) major must first be accepted into the Bachelor of Education Kindergarten/Elementary program before pursuing the听P茅dagogie de l'immersion Fran莽aise (PIF) major.听
French Language Proficiency
Applicants to the Bachelor of Education Kindergarten/Elementary Education - P茅dagogie de l鈥檌mmersion fran莽aise (PIF) program who meet the academic admission requirements, must also demonstrate a high level of aptitude in French by either:
- Meeting the requirements to be exempted
OR
- Passing the 黑料社 Test de Fran莽ais Admission - PIF (TFA-PIF)
听
Conditions for Exemption:
To be exempt from taking the test, you must provide documentation demonstrating:
- You have attended a high school and/or university for at least four consecutive years at a French-language institution; or
- You have attended at least three consecutive years at a French-language university in Quebec; or
- You have completed a DEC at a French-language CEGEP as well as secondary V in a French-language institution in Quebec.
Students who do not meet the exemption requirements will register for the next available 黑料社 PIF Admission Test when instructed to do so by the Admissions Office via their .
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the applicant鈥檚 level of French meet the standards required for future PIF teachers. The 黑料社 PIF Admission Test consists of a written portion followed by an individual oral interview and is administered by 黑料社鈥檚 French Language Centre. Students who do not pass the test will be offered admission to the regular B.Ed in Kindergarten and Elementary Education program.
